The vintage furniture was either brought from the main house or found in junk shops, flea markets or online.

To disguise the pine, the decking and exterior walls are painted in Ronseal’s Tudor Black Oak fence treatment.’ The only new elements were the corrugated tin roof and the tongue-and-groove interior cladding. One window came from another friend’s house renovation and another from Facebook Marketplace. ‘To curb costs and be sustainable in keeping with her values, Harriet rescued various other materials: the flooring came from the dining room of a friend and was paid for with a slap-up lunch. A covered deck was added to the front, which transformed the look from shed to chic. The distressed finishes make the interior style easier to layer and dress up, which she has done beautifully using vintage net curtains and homemade lace bunting. ‘To give a feeling of space, Tamsyn used a pale hue on the walls, ceilings, shutters and shelves to create a uniform backdrop.’

‘Fabric offcuts and old linens soften hard edges and provide warmth and noise insulation – and the family make up for the lack of central heating by using candles, lanterns and cosy blankets. A quilt and some cushions and pillows complete the look. To fit the space, the arms and back were removed to create a daybed. ‘A cosy corner has been created with an old sofa from the main house. On a tight budget, Tamsyn furnished the space with vintage furniture and pre-loved artwork, light fittings and ceramics. Sara says: ‘Tamsyn’s lifelong love affair with brocante and vintage textiles gives the beautiful cabin a lovely, lived-in feel and serves as an extension of her home, while keeping its own identity.’
